MAKE DO AND MEND WORKSHOPS
Time - 4:00pm - 6:00pm (4 weeks)
SEWING CLASSES AND FASHION – For adults
Do want to make your own clothes? Or perhaps you’re interested in repairing or customising something. Either way, it’s time to learn to sew! And that’s where we come in. We will help you to get started and develop your skills.
• We will teach you how to use a domestic sewing machine. Slowly and safely. Whilst practising your sewing skills, you will make a bag, or an apron in your first lesson. All sewing machines, fabrics and trims are supplied for this workshop. And of course, you get to take your creation home!
• We can show you how to sew by hand. Sewing on a button. Hemming a garment. Altering a pair of trousers. Whatever you need to know, we are here to help you learn these useful skills.
• Learn how to make repairs; replace a zip; turn up a hem; alter a garment and make the most of the clothes already in your wardrobe. Because….. #lovedclotheslast
• We can also show you how to customise and decorate your clothes. You will have the opportunity to learn the art of visible mending and embroidery. So now is the time to get creative and personalise your wardrobe! We want to protect and promote traditional skills and craftsmanship so they can be passed on to future generations.
• We will teach you all the technical terms as you learn. You can write notes in your free My Fashion Club sketchbook provided by us. We are here to help you to become your own fashion designer!
• Let us know if you’re interested in learning to knit or darn, as we may be able to run knitting workshops.
• There may also be opportunities for specialist workshops with fashion industry experts. (I have worked with so many lovely, friendly and amazingly skilled designers who want to work with My Fashion Club. Watch this space!)
* While you’re welcome to bring your own fabric and trimmings etc, you’re welcome to decorate your favourite pieces using the donated fabric we’ve collected. This comes from the design departments of fashion brands around London including Roland Mouret, Topshop, River Island, Coast, Blackhorse Lane Ateliers, and The Sustainable Sequin Company.
